'Theda'; a 1920s Ancient Egyptian revival inspired flapper dress in gold and lapiz lazuli

After the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922 by Howard Carter the world became gripped by 'King Tut mania', and the fashion world of course got in on the act, with the influence of the new discoveries of the ancient world inspiring many designers all through the mid '20s. Here's a JFD take on the look...the opulent gold embroidered feather tulle and lapiz lazuli silk satin echoing the vivid colours of the famous death mask of the young Egyptian king.

I've named the dress after the silent screen star Theda Bara, in deference to her 1917 starring role as Cleopatra, which although nearly a decade before Carter's find, really set the scene for the whole Ancient Egyptian revival.....
