Like 'The Grand Sophy', 'The Spanish Bride' takes her name from a novel by Georgette Heyer, this one based on the true story of Juana María de los Dolores de León ,orphaned during the Peninsular Wars of 1812, and rescued by an English officer by the name of Harry Smith, who instantly fell in love with, and married, her. Juanita refused to be sent back to the safety of England, and instead insisted on staying with her new husband through all the dangers and turmoil of the remainder of the campaign......
